The avnet is one of the items of the Bigdei Kehuna (priestly clothing) that the Kohen (Priest) wears during his service. It is a belt that is worn on top of the Kutonet (tunic). The avnet is made of wool and linen and is embroidered with strings in the colors of techelet (violet-blue), argaman (purple), and tola’at shani (scarlet). Its length is 32 amot (handbreadths), which is equivalent to sixteen meters!
A Closer Look: Since the avnet is made of wool and linen mixed together- which is shatnez (the biblical prohibition of mixing wool and linen)-there is a question as to whether the avnet can be worn in the Beit HaMikdash when the Kohen is not working!
