Lishkat HaEztim (Chamber of the Trees)

The Lishkat HaEztim is a room found in the northeastern corner of the Ezrat HaNashim (Women’s Courtyard). It is used to store logs to be used for the fires on the Mizbe’ach HaOlah (altar). The Kohanim (Priests) that work in Lishkat HaEztim check the trees to insure that there are no worms living in the wood. Any log with worms  is unfit for use on the Mizbe’ach.

Each week a different family of Kohanim are responsible for providing the wood to fill Lishkat HaEztim and in turn to be used on the Mizbe’ach.
